    A Portales man is accused of running a cockfighting ring north of Levelland, Texas, after a multi-departmental investigation over several weeks. A property on the 100 block of America Road in Levelland was searched Friday by Hockley County-area law officers, according to a press release from the Hockley County Sheriff’s office. “When officers arrived at the location, the alleged illegal activities were ongoing,” the release said.     Heavy rainfall this week has some Roosevelt and Curry County farmers feeling optimistic about their harvests. Some parts of the region reported nearly 5 inches of rain in the past two days.
