    Even a flooded field couldn't slow down the top-seeded Portales softball team. In a game relocated to Clovis, the Lady Rams blanked Soccoro 15-0 in a run-rule shortened game Friday in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament.   • Lady Rams seeking elusive 3A title

    Portales Lady Rams softball coach Robbie Crowley is excited to lead this year's squad into the state tournament. But she also feels the heat because of thei team's No. 1 seed, and its recent tournament success. The Lady Rams (20-5) have made it to the state final the past two seasons only to be beaten by Silver both times. They open this year's tournament today against 16th-seeded Socorro (7-13), starting at 4:30 p.m. at Wheeler Park.   • Rams begin bid for repeat 3A baseball title

    The defending 3A state champion Portales Rams begin their quest toward a second consecutive state baseball title this weekend with a three-game, round-of-16 series against Bloomfield at Ram Field, starting at 6 p.m. today. The second game is at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the third, if necessary, to follow immediately.
