Fire caused extensive damage early Monday morning to a home at 2021 Axtell St. in Clovis.
Officials said the fire was reported about 6:40 a.m. No one was injured. No one was living in the home, said Clovis Fire Marshal Terrance Lizardo
“It’s still under investigation right now,” Lizardo said late Monday morning.
“We have figured out a point of origin for the fire itself, but depending on if there’s insurance on it, they may call in a private investigator. So we don’t want to disturb anything in there.”
Lizardo said investigators believe the homeowner had last been on the property about a month ago. “From what we gather, it was not abandoned,” he said.
Glass bottles were strewn across the front lawn and an open garage showed a smorgasbord of clutter. Lizardo said the fire started in the back of the house. Firefighters worked about two hours to prevent the blaze from “rolling into the attic,” he said.
“So there’s a lot of heavy damage in the kitchen area to the backside; I guess it would be the living room. So there’s pretty decent heavy smoke damage throughout the building,” he said.
