Curry receives beautification grant

Curry County has received a grant in the amount of $8,350 to fund projects to beautify public spaces and pay youth groups for litter clean-up events.

The New Mexico Clean & Beautiful grant is a way to “inspire and educate people to act every day to improve and beautify their community environment,” according to a county release.

“Through beautification, litter reduction, and recycling, communities have built and maintained appealing public spaces, removed pounds of trash, recycled waste that would have ended up in landfills, and learned the value of having a clean, green, and beautiful place to live.”

The county will use the grant money to “enhance and beautify the County Administrative Complex with planters and plants for the public to enjoy” through partnering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

The grant money will also pay for the continued funding of school, sports and other youth groups’ clean-up projects throughout Curry County, said County Manager Lance Pyle.

Anyone interested in signing up for a litter pickup event to raise funds for school, sports or other youth groups or for more information about the NMCB grant program, contact Curry County administration at 575-763-6016.
