Estimated 100 attend cleanup

An estimated 100 people turned out for Saturday’s Great American Cleanup in Clovis, according to Clovis Assistant City Manager Claire Burroughes.

“It was great weather for the activity and everyone was in high spirits,” Burroughes said.

During the Saturday event 401 bags of trash were collected.

Burroughes provided figures showing last year’s participation was 66 people who picked up 124 bags of trash.

Burroughes reported12 teams were involved in Saturday’s event.

Awards were handed out for most trash collected.

Burroughes said first place was the 27th Maintenance Squadron; second place went to the 27th Logistics Readiness Squadron and the third place team was Team Morris, led by Mayor Mike Morris

Part of the event included no fee being charged at the landfill for bringing in trash.

From Friday to Monday 226 tons of trash was brought to the landfill along with 109 tires.

During last year’s Great American Cleanup from May 5 to May 8, 2023, 341 tons of trash and 54 tires were brought to the landfill.
