Hobbs squads top CHS in tennis

Hobbs proved to be too much for Clovis High's tennis squads on Tuesday in District 4-5A duals at the CHS courts.

The Eagles swept the Wildcats 9-0 in boys competition while the Lady Eagles notched a 7-2 victory over Clovis on the girls' side.

In the boys' dual, the Cats were unable to win a set as they took just 19 games in the nine matches, including only two in the three doubles clashes. The closest contests were from eighth-grader Ryan Case, who lost 6-4, 6-1 to senior Joar Rabago at No. 5 singles, and junior Landon Wolf, who dropped a 6-2, 6-2 verdict to junior Jimmy Evans at No. 1 singles.

For the girls, junior Madita Ewert was involved in both wins for the Lady Wildcats. The exchange student from Germany notched a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles against Hobbs freshman Madelyn Simon and teamed with senior Hannah Heath for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 triumph over Simon and senior Alexa Sanchez at No. 1 doubles.
