One shot near Melrose train tracks

MELROSE – A Melrose man was shot in the shoulder and bicep Sunday afternoon and the alleged shooter has been jailed.

Clovis police at 12:52 p.m. received a report of a gunshot victim traveling toward Clovis following an incident near the railroad tracks in Melrose.

"While being treated by the Clovis Fire Department, deputies learned that (Kenyon) Kendall had been intentionally shot by Robert Lee, also of Melrose," Curry County Sheriff Michael Brockett wrote in a news release.

After a brief search, deputies located Lee, who was walking near the train tracks in Melrose. Investigators also learned that Lee allegedly kidnapped Dustin Crenshaw of Melrose.

Lee held Crenshaw at gunpoint before seeking out Kendall who was north of Melrose at a ranch with his friend, Tyler Alexander, the sheriff reported.

Lee fired at Kendall and Alexander, missing Alexander and striking Kendall twice, records show. Alexander told authorities he returned fire when Lee shot at him, but did not hit him.

Kendall was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock in stable condition.

Lee was booked into the Curry County jail on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping. He remained in jail without bond on Monday.
