Obituary: Glen Bradshaw

Glen Bradshaw, 94

Funeral services for Glen Bradshaw, 94, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Wed., Jan. 31, 2024 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. Bural will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Ronnie Johns, Jim Davis, Chris Duncan, Wayne Anderson, David Aguirre and Larry Teal serving as pallbearers.

Glen Bradshaw was born Feb. 15, 1929 in Petersburg, TX to the home of Minnie Lee (Burton) and Keller Grover Bradshaw, and died Jan. 26, 2024 in Clovis where he had been living for the past four years. Glen grew up in Petersburg, where he graduated from high school I 1947. Following graduation, he served in the US Air Force. After his discharge, he worked for a brief time for the Santa Fe Railroad before taking up his true occupation as a carpenter. He was an excellent woodworker, and continued in that trade even after his retirement.

For many years, Glen made his home in the Lubbock area. In about 1959, he was married to Veda Masters. The couple had two sons together. In addition to his carpentry work, he worked for a period of time at the Texas Instrument plant in Lubbock. Mutual friends introduced him to a widow Mabeth Brown who lived in Portales. They married July 17, 1980, and Glen moved to Portales to make his home.

After moving to Portales, Glen worked at Eastern New Mexico University as a grounds keeper. He retired in the mid 1990's, but continued to do remodeling and additions on various homes for several more years. He and Mabeth were both animal lovers, and together they established what was probably the first animal shelter in Portales. It was truly a labor of love, which they funder largely with their own funds. They continued to take in animals until they left Portales to live their final years at Wheatfields Assisted Living in Clovis in 2019.

Glen and Mabeth were both devout Christians, and faithful members of the First Baptist Church. Glen served as deacon for 30 years. In addition he taught the adult Sunday School class, and was a member of Sharing Hearts, a gospel singing group for older adults. He and Mabeth unknowingly served as a model Christian couple for younger couples.

Glen is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Becky Bradshaw of Plano, TX and Keller and Deborah Bradshaw of Peoria, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Marion “Bud” Bradshaw, Keller Grover Bradshaw, Jr., Ray Bradshaw and Morris Bradshaw; a sister, Imogene Provence as well as by his beloved wife, Mabeth who died Nov. 11, 2022.
