Records: Vehicle involved in fatal traveling 86 mph

The Dodge Charger involved in a Christmas Day fatal at 21st and Mitchell streets was traveling 86 mph at the time of impact, court records show.

Billie Brazell, 83, of Clovis, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

Ezekiel Tarango, 24, of Clovis, was charged Tuesday with homicide by vehicle and reckless driving.

Police late last week were also looking for a four-door silver pickup that may have been racing with the Charger, records show. Witnesses said the pickup left the scene.

The wreck occurred about 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 25. A Toyota Corolla, driven by Brazell, was attempting to turn south onto Mitchell Street, when the eastbound Charger, driven by Tarango, impacted the Corolla, police said.

Tarango was hospitalized following the crash, then booked into the Curry County Detention Center. He was released from the jail on Wednesday.

He could not be reached for comment. Tarango’s attorney, Tye Harmon, did not return a call seeking comment.

Family members described Brazell as “a caring wife, mother, sister and friend,” in a published obituary. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and was a skilled piano player, the obituary reads. She was a nurse for more than 30 years in Clovis before retiring.
