Portales, Clovis schools delay starts Tuesday

Near-zero temperatures have prompted Portales and Clovis school officials to delay the start of classes by two hours on Tuesday.

"As we have continued to monitor the wind chill, predictions of potentially dangerous conditions have led to the decision to delay ... This will help give time for conditions to improve and ensure buildings are warm and ready to greet students and staff," Clovis school officials announced on their Facebook page.

"According to the National Weather Service, temperatures tonight are expected to be as low as 0 degrees with a windchill as low as negative-20 degrees," Portales Superintendent Johnnie Cain wrote in an email Monday.

A.M. Preschool in Clovis is canceled due to the delayed scheduling.
