Obituary: Bertha Madrid

Bertha Madrid, our loving mother, was called home to be with her heavenly father on December 30, 2023. She passed peacefully at home with her family by her side. Rosary will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 6:00 pm at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton St., Clovis, NM with Ramona Reyes reciting. Mass of the resurrection will be on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 108 Davis St., Clovis, NM, at 10:30 am with Father Eli Valadez officiating. Burial will take place at Mission Garden of Memories, 2900 W. 7th St., Clovis, NM. Marcos Uvalli, Sergio Uvalli, AJ Jimenez, Manuel Jimenez III, Eduardo Cabrera, and Joaquin Lucio will serve as pallbearers. Diego Sena, Santos Sena, Javier Jimenez, Michael Jimenez, Johnny Joe Jimenez, Larry Jimenez, Zayden Cabrera, Derek Posada, Valentino Uvalli, Javier M. Jimenez, Jasiahs Jimenez, and Mikallela Cabrera will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Bertha, age 87, was born in Clovis, NM to Jose and Ursula Martinez. She attended school in Clovis and made it her home, even raising her children here. She worked for thirty plus years at the Farwell Convalescent Center. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the company of her loving sisters. Bertha was happiest surrounded by her children and grandchildren. There was never a dull moment in her household. Bertha was an incredible woman whose strength and love shaped the family she created.

Survivors include her children; Susan (Paul) Kytle, Javier Martinez, Amelia Cabrera, Vincent (Sandra) Cabrera, Patricia (Arthur) Jimenez, Diana (Milfred) Martinez, Elizabeth (Manuel) Jimenez, and Lydia (Ruben) Lucio, brother; Luis Martinez, 26 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by sons; Johnny Joe Martinez, and Mario E. Cabrera, brothers; Steven Garcia, John Martinez, and Vincent Martinez, and sisters; Mary Santos, Frances Reynolds, Helen Ceja, and Grace Chacon.
