Floyd, Clovis Christian notch split

FLOYD – Floyd's boys erased an eight-point deficit after the opening stanza on Monday night and defeated Clovis Christian 55-44 for their second win in a row.

Seniors Benton Cain and Drew Essary scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Broncos (3-4). Trailing by three at halftime, Floyd outscored the Eagles 19-8 in the third stanza to take control.

Seniors Jaden Martinez with 19 points and Noah McKay with 14 paced CCS (6-6). They combined for seven 3-point baskets, including four by Martinez.

In the girls' half of the twin bill, Clovis Christian improved to 8-1 for the season with a 30-20 victory. Sophomore Jalisa Raney tallied eight points for the Lady Eagles while freshman Madisyn Kruckeberg chipped in seven.

Junior Nevaeha Brown topped all scorers with 11 points for the Lady Broncos (0-7).

Farwell splits with Dalhart – Farwell's girls, ranked sixth in Texas Class 2A by MaxPreps, improved to 14-2 with a dominating 54-31 win over the Lady Wolves (5-4) in the first half of a neutral-court doubleheader played at Vega.

Junior Makylee Baldwin scored 16 points for the Lady Blue, while senior Chloee Whitten and junior Bella Jaime added nine points apiece and senior Kennedi Richey tossed in seven.

Farwell, which has played a challenging early schedule, figures to get tested again today when the Lady Blue travel to Amarillo Tascosa (10-4), the seventh-ranked team in Class 5A.

In the boys matchup, Dalhart (6-5) erased a 12-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Steers 19-5 in the third period en route to a 41-36 victory.

Junior Kyler Read tallied 20 points and sophomore Talon Garcia added 10 for the Wolves. Top scorer for the Steers (7-6) was senior Cesar Snyder with 11 points.

Also on Monday night, Bovina's boys (4-10) posted a 63-21 victory over Amarillo-based Accelerate Christian at Bovina.
