Obituary: Scott Lendon Tillman

September 21, 1958 - October 11, 2023

Scott Tillman was born September 21, 1958 in Clovis, New Mexico. He passed away on October 11, 2023 at 65 years of age. During his life, he challenged himself and others to always reach for something bigger, better and make a difference in the world.

An ambitious dreamer, Scott loved to build things and welcomed the challenge of making something work. Over the years, he created machines that could perform with precision and showed others how to make what they already had, work better. A mechanic at heart, he could take down and rebuild almost any engine or equipment. He loved stories about the Old West, having grown up with farmers, ranchers and descendants of some of the homesteaders who settled eastern New Mexico and west Texas. Scott appreciated good food, fine whiskey and a good story.

Scott often said that his greatest accomplishments in life were his three sons. He was enormously proud of his boys and loved their families very much. He loved having all of them around, as often as possible. There was always a fair amount of teasing and joking when Scott was with his kids and grandkids. Not surprisingly, they all developed an easy laugh and a good sense of humor. Grandkids called him “pawpaw” or “Grandad” and to his sons, he was “Dad” - always caring, always willing to help. He was a large presence who made his mark in the world and he will be missed.

During 2023, Scott was preceded in death by his wife Teresa May Tillman, his mother Karen Tillman and his father Larry Tillman. His brother Craig died in 2003. Scottis survived by his three sons: Scotty, Shiloh (Courtney)and Syrel (Trista), his sister Cheri Tillman-Anderson (Ralph), his stepson Mitchell May (Madilyn), several grandchildren, and his father's wife Georgia. Scott's surviving extended family includes aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

Scott has since been cremated and his outstanding life will be celebrated in a private gathering at a later date.
