Roosevelt awarded grant for fairgrounds

Roosevelt County was awarded a $1 million grant to further enhance the county fairgrounds, according to a county news release.

The 2023 Regional Recreation Centers/Quality of Life grant will be used to add additional covered horse stalls, covered American Disability Association accessible picnic areas at the pavilion and to renovate pavilion bathrooms so they are ADA accessible, the release states.

“Staff have worked diligently these past couple of years to apply for this new funding stream and to continue to enhance the recreational facilities locally. There are three construction projects considered shovel-ready that we’ll work to complete before the short deadline,” said County Manager Amber Hamilton in the release.

Special Projects Coordinator Carol Acosta-Flore said in the release the commission has been applying for these grants for several years. Acosta-Flore said they are working on a masterplan for the fairgrounds and addressing the needed facility improvements while keeping ADA accessibility in mind.
