What sort of “Christmasy” events are scheduled for the area in the days before Christmas?
Clovis’ Christmas Light Parade is set for 6 p.m. Saturday.
“This year’s theme is ‘A Very Mickey Christmas,’” Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce’s Nick Mondragon said.
The event will start on Main Street just above 21st Street and will proceed south to just beyond Grand Avenue.
Karl Terry, Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce executive director, said Portales’ Christmas Light Parade is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The parade will be preceded by the “Christmas Jubilee” at 6 p.m. on the square in Portales.
Clovis Civic Center General Manager Sarah Stevens said there’s a “Community Holiday Party” at the Civic Center at 6 p.m. Dec. 5.
“It’s an opportunity for the community to enjoy a holiday meal that they didn’t have to prepare themselves. It’s also an opportunity to experience our new Executive Chef Claude Jeffrey,” Stevens said.
Stevens said music will be by Jocks on Wheels, photos by Image. It’s sponsored by Bank of Clovis.
She added tickets are $28 for adults, $14 for kids 6 to 12, with children 5 and under free.

Mabel Lucero, president of the La Casa Senior Center in Clovis, said there will be a Christmas Bazaar and cake walk from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the center at 1120 Cameo St.
According to a schedule posted by Terry on the Roosevelt Chamber website, Eastern New Mexico University will be hosting a free “Holiday Concert” at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Campus Union Building.
The Roosevelt Chamber’s website also notes a concert with musician Andy Mason called, “A Brief History of Christmas Music” at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at 311 Entertainment, 311 S. Main Ave. in Portales.
Mondragon said the village of Melrose is hosting “Gingerbread Lane - A Hometown Christmas Celebration Dec. 8.
The event, starting at 6 p.m., will feature a parade, tree lighting, Santa, hot chocolate and cookies.
In a social media message Melrose Mayor Meadow Forget wrote a Christmas tree lighting at WPA Park will follow the parade. The event also features a gingerbread contest.
“We are also selling raffle tickets for a beautiful quilt that the Sassy Sew and Sews donated to help pay for decorations,” Forget wrote.
Santa Claus arrives at Center Court at North Plains Mall Dec. 9, according to mall General Manager Leeann Glen.
He is scheduled to be there weekends with extended hours as Christmas approaches.
Mondragon added the Salvation Army in Clovis at 317 E. Second St. is hosting a “Winter Wonderland Party” from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9.
“There’ll be pictures with Santa, snacks and cookie decorating,” Mondragon said.
The Clovis Community College Cultural Arts Players will present their production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” Dec. 13-16.
