Police seek third suspect in smoke shop burglaries

Clovis police believe three people were involved in multiple burglaries at smoke shops over the past couple of weeks.

Two suspects were taken into custody on Nov. 9. A third suspect remained at large going into the weekend.

Authorities charged Anthony Guerra, 19, with aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, two accounts of larceny over $2,500, two accounts conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and larceny, two accounts of criminal damage to property over $1,000.

Makayla Kelley is charged with aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, two counts of larceny over $2,500, two counts conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and larceny, receiving stolen property over $500 and non-residential burglary.

A warrant was also issued for Adiano “Bubba” Gallegos, who remained at large on Friday.

Guerra last week was being held at the Curry County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond. Kelley was held, but released on bond Tuesday.

In each of the smoke shop breakins, the suspects had used either bricks or large rocks to shatter windows and doors. In most of the incidents the suspects would break in around 3 to 4 a.m., after the shops had closed.

According to police records the suspects, wearing blank Halloween masks and hoodies, would rush in breaking display cases and leaving the scene within 20 seconds.

Some of the items stolen from each of the smoke shops included glass bongs, pipes and an unknown number of vape pens, each ranging from $20-$30 in value. At one shop one of the suspects was recorded stealing large amounts of “sex pills” from behind the counter.

Court records show suspects have caused at least $14,000 in damages and made off with at least $11,600 in stolen goods.
