Toys getting night off

Stuffed animals probably need vacations, too. And the Clovis-Carver Public Library might be just the place.

The library is hosting its fourth annual stuffed animal sleepover tonight. It's free, but limited to one stuffed one per person. There will be paperwork to fill out.

"We have the participants fill out a form asking things like their name, what their favorite color is and games they like to play," said Ashley Maestas, the children's librarian.

"For example, if the person liked to play Monopoly, we would take a picture of the stuffed animal playing the game."

Participants will get a photo album showing everything the stuffed animal did during the sleepover. Stuffed bears, tigers, unicorns and dinosaurs are all invited, along with all other manner of stuffed creatures real and imagined, tall and small, laundered and fresh off the playground.

Maestas said all ages can participate.

"We have had older kids and even adults drop off their favorite stuffed animal," she said.

Dropoff time is anytime before 5 p.m. today. The library is at 701 N. Main in Clovis. Pickup is all day Thursday.

Maestas said the purpose of the event is to show all the activities available at the public library.

"Generally, a lot of our regulars drop off their stuffed animals after story time which is at 10 a.m. (today)," she said.

The party starts after that.

Kids beware, your companions might come home a little sleepy from all the overnight action, and they probably won't be hungry for awhile after returning home.

That's because they'll be stuffed.
