Obituary: Ernesto Valdez

Lubbock - Ernesto U Valdez, age 70, passed away into God's graces after a brief illness in Lubbock, Texas on October 1, 2023.

Ernesto was born to Ubaldo Jose and Josefina Valdez in Espanola, NM on October 12, 1952.

Ernesto spent his formative years in Portales, NM and lived most of his adult life in Lubbock, TX. He was known by his family in various capacities. He was a son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and a close friend. He is survived by his brothers, Leroy (Debbie) Valdez, Frank Valdez, Eloy Valdez, and two sisters, Judy Valdez and Kathy (Rex) Rush and many nieces and nephews.

Ernesto was large in stature and personality. He lived to the beat of his own drum. He was admired for his confidence and convictions. He was jovial and could

light up a room with his humor and laughter, but always knew where he stood on any topic.

He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, which generally was accompanied by delicious food (he likely made), good music, and a great time. We take comfort that he will live on in our memories.

He was laid to rest with his parents, Ubaldo and Josefina, in Portales, NM during a private family graveside service.
