Obituary: Ashley "Ash" Grandy

July 27, 1931 - Nov. 1, 2023

Tucson - Ashley "Ash" Corbell Grandy, 92, passed away on November 1, 2023, at home in Tucson, AZ. He was born on July 27, 1931, in Grandy, NC, to Ashley and Dolly Grandy. After his father's death when he was just three years old, Ash and his siblings endured 13 years in an orphanage, which cultivated a resiliency that allowed him to accomplish many personal and professional accolades.

Ash served in the Air Force for 21 years, including a deployment to Vietnam. During his time there, he invented a bomb sling that was considered extraordinary at the time. He was also a member of the Air Force volleyball team and had a remarkable 42" vertical jump. After retiring from the Air Force, Ash became the Parks & Recreation Director for Clovis, NM, where he dedicated another 20 years of his life.

Ash was known for his beautiful singing voice and would call to sing "Happy Birthday" to all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on their special day. He had a passion for sports and was an avid golfer. Ash

ran out of room on his shelves for all the trophies he won. Throughout his recreational golf career, he achieved an impressive seven hole-in-ones. Being from North Carolina, he was also a devoted fan of the Tar Heels. Ash was named to the New Mexico State Officiating Hall of Fame.

Ash was in great health when he discovered he needed triple

bypass surgery ten years ago. His heart stayed strong until his wife of 68 years, Helen, passed away October 29, 2023. After her passing he was broken hearted and told loved ones he hoped to be with her soon. Just three days after Helen passed, he died of a heart attack.

Ash is survived by his sister, Ann Lee Ramsey Bishop, daughters Sheila Gentry, Dolly Hughes, Suzy O'Rourke (Tony), Debbie Sawatzky, and son Ace Grandy. He was a loving grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ash was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen, his brother Earl Grandy, sisters Joyce Glover Gallagher and Shirley June Martin, grandson Eric Gentry, great grandson Nolan Blauw, and son-in-law Tony O'Rourke.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Ash and Helen Grandy will be held at Hope Church in Tucson, AZ, on December 16, 2023, at 2:00 pm. This gathering will serve as a time for family and friends to come together, sharing memories and paying tribute to a remarkable couple who touched the lives of so many.

May Helen and Ash's memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.
