Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Halloween hauntings

Trick? Or treat? It’s your choice at the Haunted Fairgrounds.

The Curry County Events Center is hosting what it calls family friendly Halloween activities Thursday through Saturday nights this week. Doors are open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night.

Events Manager Tyra Barron said three “haunted attractions” are also planned for those who want a good fright.

“I’m hoping that from this experience everyone has fun, because that’s our main priority. We want to provide fun and interactive events for our community,” Barron said.

Activities include a haunted hayride and gourd and pumpkin launchers. She said there will be activities for everyone in the family, including face painting.

The fairgrounds will be divided by a “scare zone” and a “safe zone,” Barron said. That’s to ensure guests not prepared for the fright can still enjoy the night.

Vendors will be on hand to provide assorted goods and treats.

“We do have quite a few different organizations coming out from the community to put together this event and so they will decorate different areas as haunted houses. On top of that we are working closely with 4-H to provide a kid zone area,” Barron said.

Vendors include pumpkin sellers and food providers.

“We plan to do this annually. It’s a massive fundraiser for the organizations of our community,” Barron said.

Barron said the Events Center will be increasing security for the activities, with personnel from Cannon Air Force Base.

Tickets are $15 for guests 6 and up. Children 5 and under are free.

The event will be 7-11 p.m., Curry County Fairgrounds, 600 S. Norris St., Clovis.
