Teen identified as homicide suspect

17-year-old wanted for two homicides in Arizona

Clovis police on Monday arrested a 17-year-old on a murder warrant out of Pima County, Ariz. The teen was also identified as a suspect in the weekend shooting death of Clovis' Isayah Montano, 18, according to a police news release.

The teen has been transported to a juvenile detention facility, the release stated.

Earlier Monday, police said they had little to go on beyond shell casings found at the scene of the shooting.

Monday night's news release stated: "During the investigation, information was obtained that identified a 17-year-old juvenile as the suspect in the death of Isayah Montano. This is still an ongoing investigation. Additionally, the juvenile had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, out of Pima County Arizona, for two counts of 1st Degree Felony Murder, two counts of Armed Robbery and Minor in Possession of a Firearm."

District Attorney Quentin Ray said Monday night the 17-year-old has not been charged in Montano's death. He's only being held on the warrants from Arizona, Ray said.

The region's Major Crimes Unit was activated late Saturday to investigate the death of Montano.

According to Clovis police:

* At 10:57 p.m. Saturday, the Clovis Police Department Dispatch Center received multiple calls of a gunshot victim in the area of the Grand Avenue Homes, 2101 W. Grand Ave.

* When police arrived at the scene, they found Montano, suffering from two gunshot wounds. Clovis Fire Department EMS personnel transported Izayah to Clovis' Plains Regional Medical Center, where he died.

* Witnesses told responding officers they heard several gunshots and saw Izayah fall to the ground and an unknown person running away from the scene.

The slaying marks Clovis' eighth homicide this year and fifth since June 19.
