Second man charged in August battery

A second man has been charged in connection with the Aug. 22 battery of Clovis’ Loydale Kirven.

Kirven was shot in the leg after a verbal altercation turned violent, court records show.

J.D. Pringle, 36, is in the Curry County Adult Detention Center without bond, charged with aggravated battery and transportation or possession of a firearm by a felon, records show. He is accused of shooting Kirven and was arrested soon after the incident.

On Friday, authorities also charged Daniel Serna, 47, in connection with the case.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Serna was in custody.

Records show police found Kirven suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg after responding to a call near Eighth and Sheldon streets.

Kirven was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center for advanced medical care.

Court records show:

• Kirven said was leaving a house he had visited when was confronted by Pringle and another man he knew only as “Dan” after the men got out of a white Chevy car with no bumpers.

• The two men accused Kirven of touching a female Kirven said he did not know.

• Kirven told police the confrontation turned physical when Pringle produced a handgun and “pistol whipped” Kirven in the face after Kirven resisted. Kirven said Pringle then fired the handgun, striking Kirven in the leg.

• Kirven also told police that the man he knew as Ken struck him in the shoulder with a bullwhip.

• Records show police have since determined the man with the whip was Daniel Serna, also known as Dan Williams. He is charged with aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery.
