Controlled burn

The city of Clovis has scheduled a controlled burn starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday at Ned Houk Park.

The Clovis Fire Department on Tuesday morning is scheduled to conduct a controlled burn at Ned Houk Park.

The burn is slated to begin at 7 a.m. and last 8-10 hours, according to a city news release.

"The purpose of this controlled burn is to reduce the heavy fire load from fallen trees and debris in order to minimize the risk of a wildland fire," the release stated.

"If you see a column of thick black smoke in the vicinity of Ned Houk Park, do not be alarmed. There will be pre-staged fire apparatus and water tankers that will maintain a fire watch throughout the event."

The fire department asks area residents stay clear of the area.
