Roosevelt fair brings in about $100K

Roosevelt County Fair officials said revenues from last week's five-day event should reach about $100,000.

That's not as much as a year ago, but a good start for a new leadership team, said Fair Board President Wes Weems.

Weems said Monday this year's fair seemed a lot more organized than in previous years; several festivities were relocated for easier access by guests and employees.

He said he had received a lot of positive feedback from guests in moving photography and painting exhibits to another facility. Weems said he was proud to hear that a lot of people from out of town attended the fair, as well.

"Got a lot of folks who come from outside areas, who moved to Portales and talk about how this feels like a county fair atmosphere they grew up with," Weems said.

Weems said the biggest factor that made this year different from previous years was having a new staff in charge of the event. He said it gave this year's celebration a "new spin," which Weems said he hopes to expand further on in future years.

He said the fair is one of the biggest things that pulls the community together, and it gives an opportunity to experience all sorts of family fun events. Weems said a lot of effort and decision making went into making this year's fair something to remember.

"So many attributes of different people come together to make that week successful. It's not just a hallmark, it's not just photos and pretty pictures and livestock. It's when you take so many walks of life from within the county to make the county fair successful," Weems said.
