Clovis man charged with arson

A Clovis man who allegedly threatened to “burn the house down,” was arrested Aug. 17 and charged with arson for a fire at 519 E. Grand Ave.

Isaiah Macias, 22, was in Curry County Adult Detention Center on Friday with a $5,000 cash-only bond, records show.

According to a criminal complaint:

Marco Macias, who lives at 515 E. Grand Ave., told police his brother, Isaiah, was upset that he could not go to the county fair.

Isaiah told family members “Gonna burn the house” and “You’ll see,” court records show.

Ana Macias, mother of Marco and Isaiah, owns properties at 515 and 519 E. Grand, records show.

Isaiah Macias told police he could not go to the fair because he didn’t have any money and because he was having issues with his brother.

“Isaiah told me he threw (a) cigarette while inside the house onto a pile of clothing. Isaiah described fire taking place in the bedroom,” a police report showed.

Emergency responders initially were told a person was possibly barricaded in the building that was on fire. But the fire was “quickly extinguished” and no one was located inside the building, according to a police news release.

The fire began about 7 p.m. on Aug. 17.

Parts of the home, which also served as a storage for property, were “severely” burned while other parts sustained mostly smoke damage, records show. No one was injured in the blaze.
