Clovis Bassmasters take first place in state qualifier

It was the second tournament for the Clovis Bassmasters club and the second time the high schoolers and middle schoolers picked up top honors.

The Clovis club, an affiliate of New Mexico Bass Nation, took to Ute Lake Sunday for their second state qualifier and finished with first-place wins in the high and junior high school divisions, according to a news release from Clovis Municipal Schools.

Autumn Kinglsey and Nicole Patton took first place in the high school division along with bringing in the biggest bass in their division.

Gregorio Cordova and Colter Williams completed with third-place finishes in the high school division.

Brayden Spears and Logan Shafer finished with the win in the junior high school division, bringing in the biggest bass of the entire tournament. Noah Baker and Colton White took second place.

The Clovis Bassmasters club will be returning to Ute Lake Aug. 27, for the state tournament.

Clovis Bassmasters is the largest high school and junior club in the state, according to the news release.

Club coordinators are looking for volunteers to help with the club, they especially need boat captains who have their own boat.
