CCC to host two-day 'food summit'

Clovis Community College will host a two-day “food summit” to provide information, ideas, and inspiration for food producers and craft workers in eastern New Mexico and west Texas on July 25 and July 26.

CCC’s Small Business Development Center is collaborating with Ogallala Commons, a nonprofit education and leadership organization, the main sponsor and organizer, and other civic organizations to conduct the two-day Bravos River Headwaters Local Food Summit., according to an Ogalllala Commons news release.

The event will feature will hear talks by people who provide “nutrient-dense, fresh food” on New Mexico land, which are drained by the Brazos River headwaters,” Berlin Arellano, Ogallala Commons’ New Mexico coordinator, stated in a news release.

The Brazos River headwaters begin at Blackwater Draw in Roosevelt County.

The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. July 25 in Room 101 in CCC’s main building the news release stated.

According to the release,speakers will address topics such as: “Getting Started in Food Production”, “Feeding the Community through Farmers Markets,” and “Local Meat Production” plus “Planning for Your Business Success” on July 25th.

The second day will also include a presentation on “Options for Diversifying Your Markets” followed by a field tour to MTA Farms and the Community Garden at Clovis Community College.

The registration fee for the Summit is $30 for one day or $50 for both days. Registration at the door will be $35 per person per day.
