Eastern New Mexico University’s men’s soccer standout Daniel Letherby has been selected to the Under-19 Malta squad for the upcoming UEFA Under-19 European Championships, in an announcement by the Malta Football Association Thursday afternoon.
According to a news release from ENMU, Letherby was selected to the 20-player squad chosen by Under-19 Maltese national team Coach Antonio Mendes. Malta’s U-19 Squad is making their first appearance in the competition, earning an automatic bid to the tournament finals as the host nation. Malta joins Portugal, Poland, and Italy in Group A, while Iceland, Greece, Norway, and Spain make up Group B.
Malta begins the tournament July 3, when they clash with Italy at Malta’s National Stadium.
“All of us here are very proud of Daniel for his high achievement both on the pitch and in the classroom,” said Head ENMU Men’s Soccer Coach Brandon Misuraca.
With the Greyhounds, Letherby was an integral part of the ENMU squad for their first season following re-instatement. The midfielder played in six games after overcoming injury in the beginning of the season. In those six games, Letherby logged 411 minutes on the field with a full 90 minutes in a pair of games, according to the release.
