ENMU Foundation announces scholarships

Eastern New Mexico University Foundation has announced it will be awarding a record-breaking number of scholarships for this upcoming academic school year.

According to an ENMU news release the foundation will be awarding 479 scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. The foundation has gathered $679,000 in scholarships to help support the ENMU-Portales campus students. Donations to these scholarships were from alumni and community members were able to help increase funding by $179,000.

“We were delighted that we continued to have alumni in the community support us and establishing these scholarships. We also had really good performance returns on our endowments,” said Noelle Bartl, executive director of the ENMU Foundation. “… Everything is moving to the positive, we have great alumni.”

The ENMU Foundation was established in 1978 and since then has awarded over $11.6 million in scholarships and over $15 million to ENMU programs, according to the ENMU news release.

The release stated 320 scholarships will fund 479 awards that will be distributed based on academic accomplishment and individual qualifications that are set by the donors. The ENMU Foundation will be in charge of managing these awards.

“I think it’s tremendous and it’s something all of the board of directors of the ENMU Foundation are very proud of,” Bartl said. “The fact that we have been able to impact so many students over the years since being established in 1978, we wouldn’t be where we are today without our founders getting it rolling along and establishing a non-profit in the late ’70s.”

The ENMU Foundation emphasizes supporting students for their future careers, while promoting the mission of the university, Bartl said.
