Court records: Suspect in shooting wanted to be killed

The suspect in Monday’s officer-involved shooting in Clovis wanted to be killed, court records show.

Jonathon Gus Sullivan, 31, was arrested and is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, making a bomb scare, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, resisting/evading/or obstructing an officer, leaving the scene of an accident involving a vehicle and vehicle registration violation.

No one was injured during the incident in which Curry County Sheriff’s Deputy Devin Glascock fired “three to four” shots but did not hit the suspect.

Glascock fired at the suspect when he was observed threatening another deputy with a weapon, records show.

New Mexico State Police Officer Eric Fouratt wrote in his report that he was called in to investigate an-officer involved shooting on Rencher Street just after 2 a.m. Monday.

Fouratt wrote the incident began when officers were called in to investigate drug trafficking allegations at 816 Rencher.

Sullivan left the scene in a 2010 Hyundai with officers in pursuit, records show. Curry County deputies attempted to stop the car, but Sullivan continued to flee, hitting a parked car in the process.

Sullivan then returned to 816 Rencher, got out of the car and ran to the rear of the property. Officers detained a woman who had been in the car with Sullivan.

In the process of the pursuit, Sullivan yelled to officers he had a bomb, according to Fouratt’s report.

Officers also saw “a pink gun” that was believed to be an airsoft pistol, later revealed to be a pellet gun.

At one point during the incident, Glascock, “fired approximately three to four rounds from his handgun at the suspect,” said Sheriff’s Deputy Jean Luc Bazan, according to Fouratt’s report.

Glascock fired at Sullivan when officers observed Sullivan “swing his hands” at another deputy holding the pink object, records show.

A short time later Sullivan was discovered in the back of a sport utility vehicle and was removed by officers without further incident.

According to Fouratt’s report, Sullivan continuously stated “he had hoped to be killed by the deputies and officers.”

Sullivan was still in the Curry County Adult Detention Center on Friday without bond.

Sheriff Mike Reeves said state police are continuing to investigate the incident. Glascock remains on duty, the sheriff said.
