Sheriff: Deputy fires weapon; one in custody

Monday's incident in which a Curry County Sheriff’s deputy discharged his firearm began as a vehicle pursuit and ended in a foot pursuit, Sheriff Mike Reeves said Tuesday.

No one was shot in the incident, which ended about 2 a.m. Monday in the 800 block of Rencher Street.

Reeves said one person was taken into custody. Neither the suspect's name nor charges against the suspect were immediately released.

The sheriff declined to provide additional information but said New Mexico State Police are investigating.
