Cannon holding change of command ceremony today

An Air Force Change of Command ceremony is set for 9 a.m. today at Cannon Air Force Base.

Cannon Wing Commander Col. Terence Taylor is relinquishing command to Col. Jeremy S. Bergin according to a news release from Cannon's public affairs office.

Taylor is heading to his new command of the 380th Expeditionary Wing based out of Al Dhafra, United Arab Emirates.

Bergin comes from the 14th Flying Training Wing, Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Mississippi where he served as the Vice Wing Commander.

Taylor has been Cannon's Wing Commander since May, 2021.

The change of command is routine, according to the release.

"Changes of command happen every two years following the completion of the commander's tour," Jozlin Moyette wrote in the news release. Moyette is Chief of Media Operations for the public affairs office at Cannon.

Moyette describes the ceremony as "pretty standard for each incoming commander."

"Following the room's call to attention and normal presidings such as the arrival of the official party, presentation of colors, the singing of the national anthem, official medal presentations, the outgoing commander speaks then the change of command happens," Moyette wrote

Moyette wrote the incoming commander speaks, there are awards exchanged to the families, there is a salute to the squadrons, and then a reception for the incoming commander.

An officer is selected to be wing commander after consideration by Air Force Special Operations Command.

"We are looking forward to having Col Bergin as our Wing Commander and can't wait to see how he will lead the men and women of Cannon Air Force Base," Moyette wrote.

Today's 9 a.m. ceremony will take place in Hangar 4610 Cannon Air Force Base according to Moyette.

The ceremony will be live streamed on the Cannon Air Force Base Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CannonAirForceBase
