Lady Cats' Parkin signs with Patriots

CLOVIS – Clovis High senior Madison Parkin, currently seeking to repeat as the state Class 5A girls pole vault champion, has signed a national letter of intent for college at Division II Texas-Tyler.

Parkin, who has cleared 11 feet in the event, signed on Tuesday in a ceremony at the high school.

She believes she will fit in well with the Patriots' program as she pursues a pre-med major.

"I immediately fell in love with the team," she said. "It's an amazing track team, and the school has a great pre-med program."

On Friday, she went 10 feet to win District 4-5A competition at Carlsbad. The Class 4A and 5A state meets are on tap this weekend at the University of New Mexico's track facility in Albuquerque.

If she wins in Albuquerque, it would mark the third consecutive CHS girls state champion in pole vault. Camryn Barros, now a sophomore at Angelo State, won it in 2021, with Parkin finishing second.
