Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Club notes - May 7

Curry County Association of Educational Retirees

The CCAER met May 2 at K-Bob’s restaurant in Clovis.

Club President Eileen Massey welcomed guest speaker Dru Stevens of Pleasure Lake Farms.

Many members were treated to an interesting talk and video about the development and daily management of Pleasant Lake Farms, located between Clovis and Texico.

Stevens shared how she and husband Bo and their children have created a business in farming beginning with the construction of a water-conserving playa lake on their acreage. Once that lake was in use, many birds and wildlife settled in the area.

The video we watched detailed what is being farmed and how the farm grew to provide many side businesses such as flower socials where people can take personal tours, create flower bouquets, and have a meal that incorporates lavender.

Stevens sells flowers at local Farmers Markets in Clovis and Portales. To aid in water conservation in our area, they concentrate on making their farming practices as efficient as possible. The Stevens have also created programs to help teach those new to farming.

CCAER meets the first Tuesday of the month at K-Bob’s Restaurant at 11:00 for lunch; 11:30 for the meeting. Our next meeting will be September 5, 2023.
