Robin Jones to stay on as CCC interim president

Robin Jones will stay on as Clovis Community College’s interim president until a new president is hired, CCC’s board of trustees decided unanimously on Monday.

Jones has been interim president since Aug. 8, when former President Charles Nwankwo was placed on administrative leave while allegations leading to declarations of “no confidence” in Nwankwo by three CCC employee groups were investigated.

Nwankwo resigned on Feb. 6 after being named president in February 2020.

In addition to extending Jones’ stay as interim president, the board also approved retroactive pay for Jones in the amount of $24,346.06 to cover the difference between her pay level as executive vice president of academic affairs and the president’s salary.

As an executive vice president, Jones eared $141,345 a year, Kameron Barnett, the board’s attorney, said. The president’s salary, which Jones will earn going forward, is $185,000.

Board President Lora Harlan said the board will schedule a public study session to discuss the process for seeking and hiring the next president, but a date had not been set as of Monday.

In other action Monday, the board:

• Approved fees for summer 2023 and fall 2023 classes at CCC. “Fees occasionally change as a result of increased cost in supplies,” Jones told the board.

• Awarded a contract for campus-wide fire alarm system upgrades to Davtek, a Clovis construction company, the sole bidder, for $934,394.83. The project includes sensors, alarms, lights and other detection and notification system upgrades in all campus buildings, according to Norman Kia, vice president of information technology and operations.

• Awarded a contract to add 12 more welding booths for CCC’s popular welding education programs to WWRC, a Clovis construction company. Kia told the board the job did not require bidding, because WWRC is a member of a state cooperative, Cooperative Educational Services, that

contracts with the state purchasing department. The contract amount with WWRC is $106,285.34
