Suspect in stabbing to remain in custody

A man suspected of stabbing his wife to death will remain in custody at the Curry County Adult Detention Center.

Lloyd Edwards, 69, appeared Thursday before Ninth Judicial District Judge Drew Tatum in a pre-trial detention hearing. Tatum found there was clear and convincing evidence that Edwards is dangerous, and no release conditions would protect the community, according to a news release from District Attorney Quentin Ray.

Friday, Edwards appeared in court and was indicted on second-degree murder and tampering with evidence charges by a Curry County grand jury.

The charges stem from an incident on Mabry Drive on Jan. 18 in which Edwards called 911 to report his wife, Roxie Edwards, 68, had been stabbed.

Edwards told multiple and inconsistent stories regarding how his wife was stabbed, court records show. Officers found Edwards had two knives, including one with blood on it, records show.

Edwards is being represented by Jacob Ort from the state's public defender's office. Attempts to obtain comment from Ort were unsuccessful on Friday.
