CLOVIS – Other than a few too many mechanical errors, Clovis Christian boys coach Trent McKay allowed that his team did all right in Friday night's 88-56 triumph over Elida at the Eagles' new on-campus gym.
Seniors Carter Teune (29) and Noah Gershon (25) combined for nearly two-thirds of the points as CCS (12-3) improved to 2-0 in its new digs.
"The boys played well tonight – other than the turnovers," McKay said. "We did what we had to, but it was a little sloppy. We finally shot the ball a little better."
Indeed, the Eagles shot it well with 10 3-pointers, six of them coming from Gershon. It was their highest-scoring game of the season, surpassing their total in an earlier 77-63 victory over the Tigers (4-9) at Elida.
Senior O.B. Blanco also reached double digits for CCS with 11 points as nine Eagles scored. Elida, which got 12 points each from senior Jose Jimenez and sophomore Hardy Fraze, stayed within four points through the opening stanza before Clovis Christian scored 25 points in each of then next two frames to build its advantage to 29.
