HOUSTON — Texas Tech completed its first 8-win season since 2013 with a 42-25 win over Ole Miss on Wednesday night.
The Red Raiders clinched the victory when Loic Fouonji ran an Ole Miss onside kick into the end zone with 3:03 left in the game.
“In 29 years I’ve had some special moments in my career, but tonight was really special,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said.
“It’s hard whenever you get a new coach and staff that comes in. Things are different. For them to accept us the way that they did and play the way they do every game shows they believe in what we are doing. More important they love each other and believe in each other.”
The Red Raiders were led by quarterback Tyler Shough who passed for 242 yards and ran for 111 more. He ran for two touchdowns and passed for another.
Turnovers also played a big role for Tech, which forced two fumbles and snagged three interceptions.
While the Rebels struggled to find the endzone, it wasn’t for a lack of offense. Ole Miss compiled 530 of offense, the bulk of them coming through the air.
Both teams finished their season 8-5.
