NMSU wins Quick Lane Bowl

DETROIT – New Mexico State University beat Bowling Green, 24-19, in Monday’s Quick Lane Bowl played at Ford Field.

Aggies quarterback Diego Pavia threw for 167 yards and two first-half touchdowns and rushed for 65 more yards in earning the game’s Most Valuable Player award.

NMSU scored the game’s first 17 points. Pavia found Star Thomas on a 15-yard TD toss at the 9:39 mark of the first quarter, then hit Eric Marsh from 2 yards out halfway through the second quarter.

Ethan Albertson kicked a 35-yard field goal and Ahmonte Watkins ran 45 yards for a score in the Aggies’ third quarter.

The win gave NMSU a 7-6 season record while Bowling Green finished 6-7. NMSU coach Jerry Kill said he expects continued success.

"Oh, we're going to continue to improve,” he said. “There's no doubt about that. We'll continue to get better, but it's a whole different team next year …”
