TUESDAY PREPS: Eagles pull away late to top Tigers

ELIDA — Senior Carter Teune scored 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and Clovis Christian pulled away to a 77-63 victory over Elida in boys basketball on Tuesday.

The Eagles (5-1) carried just a two-point lead into the final stanza before outscoring the Tigers 24-12. Senior Noah Gershon collected 19 points and junior Jaden Martinez 10 for CCS.

The Eagles knocked down 10 3-pointers in the contest, including four by Teune and three by Martinez.

Senior Jose Martinez poured in 35 points for Elida (2-6) while his brother, junior Seth Jimenez, added 19.

In other boys action on Tuesday:

Muleshoe 52, Bovina 51 — At Muleshoe, the visiting Mustangs held a five-point lead early in the fourth quarter before the Mules rallied.

Bovina (6-5) had a chance to tie or win it in the closing seconds, but missed the second of two free throws and a putback was off as time expired.

Senior Irvin Torres posted 14 points for Muleshoe (4-4). Senior Ceasar Amaya took game honors with 17 for the Mustangs.

Idalou 51, Farwell 48 — The host Wildcats (5-5) pulled one out late in a seesaw matchup against the Steers, who were coming off a championship three nights earlier in their own invitational.

Sophomore Kutter Houchin scored 19 points to pace Idalou, while Farwell (6-3) was led by 10 points from senior Adrian Gomez.

Grady 47, Texico JV 25 — At Grady, the Bronchos jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first period and gradually stretched out their advantage.

Junior Zane Rush tallied 13 points and sophomore Deakin Ragland added 12 for Grady (3-3), while freshman Maverick Hawkins posted seven points for the Wolverines.

In girls games on Tuesday:

Farwell 66, Idalou 56 — The Lady Blue, like their male counterparts coming off a weekend tourney title, broke away from a tight game in the fourth quarter and rode a balanced attack as sophomore Bella Jaime tallied a season-best 15 points.

Three others scored in double digits for Farwell (10-3) — senior Charlie Trimble and junior Chloee Whitten with 12 each, and sophomore Makylee Baldwin with 11. Freshman Karsyn Lutrick topped the Lady Wildcats (4-7) with 10 points.

Grady 54, Texico JV 44 — The Lady Bronchos built an eight-point halftime cushion and went on to register the win as sophomore Juanita Rodriguez led three players in double figures with 19 points.

Juniors Shayla White and Taylor Foote added 12 and 11, respectively, for Grady (3-3). Freshman Kinzee Crow netted 11 points for the Lady Wolverines.

Amarillo High JV 58, Bovina 17 — The Fillies (6-7) ran into a buzzsaw against the Class 5A Sandies junior varsity, falling into a 17-1 hole at the quarter and never recovering.

Bird Moffitt scored 12 points for Amarillo High, while Bovina was led by junior Lesley Esparza with seven.
