Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Clovis' Shad Mayfield continued to lead the tie-down roping world standings going into Sunday's fourth round of the National Finals Rodeo. But his lead was shrinking.
Caleb Smidt, a three-time world champion from Bellville, Texas, started the NFR in fourth place in the world standings. But Smidt won the NFR's first and second rounds and finished third in Saturday's third round.
Mayfield finished second to Smidt in the second round, but finished out of the money on Thursday and Saturday.
Going into Sunday's competition, Mayfield led the world standings with $236,359. Smidt was in second place with $232,033.
Competition is scheduled to wrap up on Saturday night.
