A private plane touched down in the grass during a landing at Clovis Regional Airport Sunday afternoon starting a grass fire that was quickly extinguished.
Clovis Regional Airport director James Harris said neither the pilot nor his two passengers were injured.
Clovis city manager Justin Howalt said the plane was towed off the runway and is in an airport hangar.
He said the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.
Harris said the pilot reported as he was approaching for a landing his plane wasn’t lined up on the runway so he initiated a “go-around.”
During that maneuver his airplane couldn’t maintain altitude so he decided to land in the grass.
Harris would not give out the name of the pilot as is procedure at this time.
