CCS golf team at national contest

Clovis Christian Eagles boys golf team participated in the High School Golf National invitational in Pinehurst N.C. Monday through Wednesday.

Clovis Christian Schools superintendent Shelly Norris said the team was eligible to be invited to the tournament at Pinehurst Resort, "Home of American Golf," because the team won the New Mexico 2021 golf tournament.

"We finished 46 out of 55 teams," team coach Trent Mckay said. "We were the smallest team, student body wise."

Mckay said of the teams participating they came from schools of similar size to Clovis Christian to what he called, "huge California schools."

"We did beat different schools," Mckay said. "A lot of our kids held their own."

Mckay said the champion of the tourney was Rivers Academy of Alphretta, Ga.

Mckay spoke of the experience saying the team was at the historic Pinehurst Golf Resort, the boys played with young golfers from all over the country: From Maine, New Hampshire, Wyoming, West Virginia and more.

"And they asked us about living in New Mexico," Mckay said.

McKay said the teams were very much welcomed at the tournament.

"The PGA, Titleist and Pinehurst rolled out the red carpet for these kids," Mckay said.
