Clovis’ Draggin’ Main is an “all things related to cars” event, and it starts a week from today.

Draggin’ Main’s co-founder and organizer Gene Porter had that description of what he went on to label as a “non-discriminatory motor event: Cars, bikes, trucks, tractors, cheap, expensive, unfinished, finished, vintage, classic, new, old.”

Porter organized the original Draggin’ Main with Bryan Boone nine years ago.

The event gets underway with Draggin’ Main’s “Tour of Classic Restaurants” Sunday, June 12 at the Rib Crib restaurant. After that it’s nightly get-togethers at various restaurants around Clovis: Foxy’s Drive-In Monday night, June 13; Taco Box Tuesday night, June 14; Twin Cronnies Wednesday night, June 15 and Weinerschnitzel Thursday night, June 17.

Friday night there’s a block party, on Main Street.

Porter says the party will have a show car cruise with what he called unique cars “that don’t normally do the cruise.”

He said there’ll be bike games, a motorcycle stunt team called Globe of Death Squad or GODS, nostalgic funny cars, cars with “nitro methane” fueled motors in an event called “Cackle Fest.”

Porter says the big day for Draggin’ Main is Saturday, June 18 with the “Gearhead Gathering” in Clovis’ Hillcrest Park.

Porter described the Gearhead Gathering as a “family-oriented car show of sorts. He said the show tries to cover “everything with a motor” including remote controlled cars and airplanes, semi-trucks.

Porter said for fans of the TV show “Garage Squad” personality Joe Zolper will be at Draggin’ Main.

While not officially linked together the Clovis Music Festival will begin and run after Draggin’ Main has begun.

Thursday, June 16, American Idol’s Danny Gokey will be in Clovis. Friday, June 17, the Southern rock band .38 Special will be in town for a concert and Saturday, June 18, it’s La Furia del Bravo opening for La Maquinaria Norteña.
