Lady Cats compete at Alamgordo; CHS boys tennis team posts win

ALAMOGORDO — Clovis High’s girls competed in Alamogordo’s Bob Sepulveda Invite on Monday, finishing with 47 points.

All of the Lady Wildcats’ points came on the track. No team scores were available at press time.

Junior Zoe Linn posted the Lady Cats’ lone win, taking the 300 hurdles in 51.60 seconds. She was also second in the 100 hurdles (17.47).

The Lady Cats placed in four relays, including a second-place finish in the 800 relay in 1:48.30.

On Friday, CHS boys were fourth in the Artesia Invitational with 56 points, trailing Hobbs (149), the host Bulldogs (107) and Moriarty (59).

Junior R.J. Nora posted wins for the Wildcats in the 110 hurdles (15.19) and the 400 (53.17), while junior Gregorio Cordova (43 feet, 2 inches) and sophomore Jeremiah Johnson (42-8) finished second and third in shot put.

The Lady Cats took only two athletes to that meet, with junior Madison Parkin clearing a personal-best 11 feet to win pole vault competition.

CHS tracksters return to action on Friday in the Ross Black Relays in Lovington.

Tennis — Clovis’ boys captured a District 4-5A dual victory on Saturday at Roswell, edging past Roswell High 5-4.

Clovis won four of the six singles matches, with junior David Case prevailing 7-5, 6-3 over Ethan Shappard at No. 1, senior Roman Galvan taking a 6-4, 7-5 verdict over Sean Brackeen at No. 3, senior Zach Morris notching a 6-0-6-1 triumph over Aldo Mata at No. 5 and freshman Taksh Patel prevailing 7-5, 6-2 over Alex Vargas at No. 6.

Sophomore Titus Wampler teamed with Patel to give the Cats their lone doubles triumph, a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Mata and Vargas at No. 3.

“The boys played well,” Cats coach Tristan Pautler said. “They’ve gotten better since the beginning of the season. We’re definitely seeing some progress.”

Meantime, the CHS girls were accorded a 9-0 team triumph over the Lady Coyotes by forfeit.

On Friday, the Cats and Lady Cats are slated to host a District 4-5A tournament at the CHS courts.
