A Portales woman has been charged with 21 felony counts related to identity theft, making unauthorized withdrawals of funds, and fraud, and five misdemeanor fraud counts, which led to $5,168.27 being drained from the victim’s bank account.

A warrant has been issued by the Roosevelt County Magistrate Court for the arrest of Angelica Garcia, 28, of Portales, in connection with the unauthorized withdrawals and identity theft counts.

Court documents show that Keith Bessette, a Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s investigator, alleged that Garcia wrote checks and arranged electronic payments from June 18 to about July 6, using bank account information obtained from a check from the victim.

According to court documents, Garcia is facing one charge of fraudulent use of a credit card without consent, a third-degree felony; four counts of identity theft, a less serious fourth-degree felony; 10 counts of unauthorized withdrawal of funds, a fourth-degree felony; five counts of fraud, a fourth degree felony; one count of conspiracy to commit fraud, a fourth-degree felony; and five counts of misdemeanor fraud.
