A Melrose student athlete has won a $1,000 “Together We Rise” scholarship from the New Mexico Activities Association, according to an NMAA press release.
Johanna Roybal of Melrose was one of 37 student athletes statewide to win scholarships totaling $41,500 in the scholarship program.
The scholarship is given to students excelling in athletics, activities and academics, the press release stated.
The press release noted that about 200 students were nominated or submitted applications for the awards.
