Pages past, Feb. 6: And the rest is history

On this date ...

1972: A Curry County Historical Society had been proposed as a prime objective by the Clovis Chamber of Commerce Civic Affairs Committee.

Chairman Don McAlavy led the discussion about the need for such an organization to “preserve historical information from oldtimers before it is too late to record it,” the Clovis News-Journal reported.

“It’s a shame that Curry County doesn’t (already) have a historical society,” McAlavy said.

Today, the High Plains Historical Society is raising funds in hopes of creating a museum for historical artifacts. The organization’s president is Patsy Delk.
