ENMU briefs: Hounds name new strength and conditioning coach

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University has named Tommie Moore its new strength and conditioning coach, according to a school release.

“I am excited to join the Greyhounds as the head strength and conditioning coach,” said Moore, most recently an athletic performance intern at the University of Texas. “I have a passion for developing athletes holistically on and off the field of play and look forward to working with all of Eastern's student-athletes.”

While with the Longhorns, Moore assisted with setting and achieving athlete and team objectives, educating athletes on exercise, nutrition, and supplements, assisting athletic trainers to reduce injuries and facilitate rehabilitation, and observing athletes to adjust movement patters to maximize performance.

Previous stops including an assistant position at Southeastern Louisiana and a graduate assistant post at Delta State — where he is working on a master’s degree in human and sport performance.

Moore, a 2018 graduate of South Carolina State, also interned at the University of Kentucky, the University of Florida, Middle Georgia State University, and his alma mater.

ENMU puts 118 on Commissioner’s honor roll: Eastern New Mexico University placed 118 student-athletes on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s honor roll, according to a Monday release from the conference office.

The conference had a total of 2,293 student-athletes named to the honor roll, which requires being on a team’s current roster and holding a grade point average of at least 3.3. West Texas A&M led all 18 LSC schools with 199 student-athletes on the honor roll.

A total of 738 student-athletes, 31 from ENMU, earned a perfect 4.0 for the semester. WT and Lubbock Christian topped that list with 69 each.

A school release reported ENMU’s student-athletes combined for a 3.11 GPA, with women’s basketball leading the way at 3.44.

“We are so thankful to have the student-athletes we do and the effort that they elect to put into their studies,” ENMU Athletic Director Paul Weir said in a school release. “Eastern New Mexico University can be proud of the young men and women who not only compete and represent our university, but also carry a heavy academic load with success.”
