Local students named to all-state

Nine Clovis high school musicians and four Portales High students have been named to the New Mexico All-State Band, according to the New Mexico Music Educators Association.

The students auditioned for the state-wide ensemble Nov. 1-5 with both prepared music and sight-reading. Selection was based on scores achieved in the performances, a Clovis Municipal Schools news release said.

The Clovis and Portales students will participate in the All-State Conference and Concert Jan. 8 at Eastern New Mexico University's Portales campus.

From the Clovis High School Freshman Academy Symphonic Band, Appoline Rivera, trumpet, was selected for the all-state band.

From Clovis High School Symphonic Band, seven musicians were chosen, including Ansley Adams, flute; Adriana Mulgado, oboe; Chris Howe and Aaliyah Thom, bassoon; Seth Baldock, clarinet; Francisco Rodriguez-Bryant, tenor saxophone; and Josiah Bwana, percussion.
